A man from Homer
Now I know where my next setting for ministry will take me. Along with Karen and our Brittany Kate, and possibly our soon to graduate from college daughter Sarah, we will be moving to Homer, Alaska. I begin serving as pastor of that congregation on July 1, 2008. Last night was the fascinating experience of a “phone interview” with the Alaska Conference Superintendent and some members of the Homer Church. We talked about ministry and interests and about the community of Homer. The more I heard the greater sense of assurance that this is the right place for me to serve. So today I continue (since several things have already been put in motion) to help my current church with the transition of leadership and church-life that this change will mean. Someday I hope to feel a valuable and meaningful part of the Homer Community. I hope to listen well to the folks I’ll be meeting and get to know people in deeply meaningful ways. And I hope that when I go to clergy meetings or other places that some day somebody will refer to me as a man from Homer. “Is there anybody here from Homer?” “I’m a man from Homer.”
